Little dink

Firstly let me applogise this maybe a long post, I have been pluggin away at this for over a year now and could do with some kind words of encouragment.

it's the wife's fault she suggested a golf as the next project after I sold my E reg BMW 730  :tlc: when our son was born (Parts where to expensive). So I had a look around and found a 83 cabby on ebay. it was a 1500 auto non-runner needing a bit of tlc. Emailed the bloke selling it, He said it was an abandoned he had towed in about 6 months before ( he worked for a salvage company) the engine would turn over but not start he had not had a look at but said it would not need much. So I boughtit for 200 notes

I thought I would be able to get the engine runnin and do a rolling restore on it

This put pay to that idea the reason the engine would not start is , the engine had a novel venting system.

so I stripped out the engine and looked around for a new one which came in the form of 8v 1.8 mk2 gti engine and manual gearbox for ?60.

I thought while the engines out I'll do the body work and get it spayed that was last october. Last weekend I finshed one side  :banghead:

I still have the other side to do

spent this weekend working across the back got the rear lower quarter welded in and a repair patch on the lower valance. and got the holes cut for the rear fogs

I was hoping to be in a postion to get her spayed at the end of sept but the weather put pay to that. Still the drivers side does not seem as bad as the passenger side (famous last words) so I am aiming for march/april

Nice resto… that's one hell of a hole in the engine block, not surprised it wouldn't start  . What made it, con-rod?

Cheers Guys

The dub shack (as the wife calls it) is a marque that I brought from ebay But I cut the height down as it shifted about, it was a 10ft x 20ft. Left one section out and cut down a 24ft x 18ft tarp fits over it a treat.

I had two covers on it before and it was a royal pain in the a**e to uncover the car. I got the idea from a guy in Volksworld he did up a type 3 under a tent.

Yer it was the conrod took the universal shaft with it, the conrod was sitting on top of the alternater when I opened the bonnet. here all the bits I found in the sump when I took it off
