Knee Bar - Lower Tray conversion
Have just removed the knee bar fascia off from the strut support which is bolted in either side can i remove this completely or do i need to cut it so as to leave a peice bolted either end to fit the under dash trays?
did that make sense!?

As above.
It braces the car across the front, prevents shake etc.
Plus as EW points out its part of the cars structure.
Removal at your peril, especially If you have an accident as its a modification from standard so in theory your insurance could be invalid.

Ok thanks! I did wonder if it was just structural. So fitting the under dash trays is a no go then? Hows it done on a tintop?

its actually originally a US part, as they use really crap seat belt system. its there to stop you sliding out from under the belts in a crash, as your knees smash into it. hence 'knee bar'
god knows why they didnt just use 3 point belts like we all do, but then they are our backwards cousins I suppose
retrofitted to cabrio as above to put a bit of strength back in, so nooooo dont remove it. you might be able to remove it then mock up your own strengthening brace to replace it, made in such a way that it tucks up more so that the normal undertrays fit.

Thanks rubjonny, i think in all honesty its not worth the hassle just for a couple of extra storage levels! But useful info! I like abit of a history lesson when its something im actually interested in lol

yeah is a bit of a faff. i nearly made this mistake on mine though! was chatting to a neighbour about it who then pointed out that maybe its needed for stiffness and i was like <facepalm>
