Knee Bar - Lower Tray conversion

Have just removed the knee bar fascia off from the strut support which is bolted in either side can i remove this completely or do i need to cut it so as to leave a peice bolted either end to fit the under dash trays?

did that make sense!?

You don't want to be cutting or removing that at all really, it's structural.

As above.
It braces the car across the front, prevents shake etc.
Plus as EW points out its part of the cars structure.
Removal at your peril, especially If you have an accident as its a modification from standard so in theory your insurance could be invalid.

Ok thanks! I did wonder if it was just structural. So fitting the under dash trays is a no go then? Hows it done on a tintop?

It's only there because there is no roof! Tintop cars don't need the extra bracing to stiffen them.

It takes one person to say it an it makes absolute sense! Haha thanks guys

its actually originally a US part, as they use really crap seat belt system. its there to stop you sliding out from under the belts in a crash, as your knees smash into it. hence 'knee bar'

god knows why they didnt just use 3 point belts like we all do, but then they are our backwards cousins I suppose

retrofitted to cabrio as above to put a bit of strength back in, so nooooo dont remove it. you might be able to remove it then mock up your own strengthening brace to replace it, made in such a way that it tucks up more so that the normal undertrays fit.
