Jacking

Hi there,

I've got a selection of three stands and jack so I can get working on tidying up the inner arches with the wheels off.

Where do I jack and stand to avoid any sill damage?

Cheers,

Gi.

on the rear the stands can go under the back axle.
what head is on the jack??
just behind the front wheels beside the sill there is a bit sticking down where the car can be jacked from but make sure that the jack wont slip off it.

If you're going to be working under the car I'd invest in one more axle stand - it's definitely bad practise to crawl underneath a car while it's only resting on the jack.

I used the rear chassis rails and the factory jacking points, which are circular protrusions just near where the inner wing and the sill meet. There is some debate as to whether they're strong enough to use with the engine in place, but they did me fine.

Many thanks for the help Gents,

The head on my jack is pretty small which is why i was a bit worried about the sill.  I'm unsure as to the type of head though.

I'll get another stand, find all the points you suggested and see which will work the best for me.

cheers

dont jack on the sill!

if you must use a block of wood just behind the jack point.

you will also have rear jacking points at the back like box section things to be used for minor jacking.

also make sure you use a stand :)

Thanks for all your suggestions guys.  All noted, just waiting for some slightly more pleasant weather to begin the arch clean up.

Indeed.  I braved it today though.  Pouring down with rain and I was able to clean most of the cack off the inner arches.

A Gazebo would be a great Idea but sadly i'm living in a flat and I think the other residents would get a bit annoyed if our drive started to look like a campsite.  I'll stick it out in the rain and cold untill I get everything clean enough to take my golf to get some welding and spraying done down the road.
