Is my centre console the right one?

I have a series 1 Golf L (79), it currently has a centre console, which is quite slim, and has to holes for gauges, but none of the holes line up with fixing in place.
I also have a seperate gear shifter surround, the big plastic thing that surrounds the shifter & holds the gaitor in place, does this sound right?

Just done some more research, and now know that the Golf L didn't have one fitted!

Yeah that sounds about right. Easy upgrade to fit either of the centre consoles (two/three gauge) so thats what alot of people do.
