ignition housing - pls helllp! simple problem!drivingmenuts!

i had to replace the ignition housing on me mk1 as the steering lock was broke.  took it all off no probs,  now im trying to put the new one back on it just wont go in the correct position - its almost as if the steering colum tube circumfrence is to big.  The tube just wont go in to the base of the housing and this means the steering wheel doesnt have enough thread to be secure enough.  the colum meets the fixing bracket enough to but the bolt through, but it needs about half a centimetre more to fit proper, u can see on the tube where it should b as theres a mark there….

pls help as im going mad  with this stupid problem - ive tried squeezing the tube together but it doesnt help… :?

problem solved! just used a small file on the inner housing…
