I've Done a Search - Cloth Seats
A question which seem to come up regularly but I didn't find a good answer on, is where can I buy 'oem' seat material. I'm refurbishing a '79 GTI and I believe with a good clean I can save my Tartan interior but the black on the front seats is a lost cause.
Where can I get black cloth from or what is an acceptable alternative? I'd consider alcantra, but I'm not sure how well it fits with the car, and I don't want to re-cover them to find out. Any help and/or advice would be appreciated, especially the name and contact details of retailers.

I believe I've found matching material. I pick it up next week, and it's dead cheap, but essentially is office furniture fabric used for seats. It's the correct black and woven and in the sampe I've seen it's matches perfectly. It was only $15NZD a metre and is called Chiraz.

you can also get the red or black tartan material from a guy on here www.watercooled.nl just go into the site and look in "Marktplaats, its not cheap but qualiteeeeee never is  you need about 4 metres to do the centres on a gti interior
I would love my recaros re-done with red tartan centres, but i cant really justify "ruining" my sportlines interior just yet though :?

Well done with sourcing the cloth Angle.
@ Top of the range, Mk5 gti's have similar cloth to the series 1 tartan, its called 'interlagos'

A guy on Edition 38 had trimmed up some bucket seats with it and I think it looks great…
…its probably just as expensive as the series one stuff though

I haven't given up on this project. I did find material, though I able to re use the existing material successfully.
