I have a leak, please help.

hey, im very new to mk1 ownership so i don't know much about them. Mine has got a leak somewhere and im hoping someone can help me on figuring out where the water could be getting in the car..  :dontknow:

The water is gathering in the front passenger side footwell. the carpet in that area is very wet and i really not sure how its getting in. I originally thought.. hey theres two parts of the scuttle panel missing!! but it seems mk1's only have the middle section of scuttle panel am i right?
the passenger seat it dry which would seem to indicate its not the window seal or anything like that.

Any help is much appreciated!! Thanks.

there are normally drain holes at the sides of the scuttle and these block with leaves etc and the water fills and over spills down the bulk head inside and into the foot well, just clearing them and the door drainage holes located in the door bottoms, should help, just  watch out for the fuse box getting wet and corroded.

Is it a tin top or cabby?

with chortle, the drain holes in the corners of the scuttle.  Also to consider, does it have a sunroof, the drain channels can become blocked.

Yep drain holes, then water following cables and wires (aerial) thru bulkhead, windscreen seal (stick some kitchen roll down between dash and inside of windsreen, esp the corners and see if it gets wet when it rains). Water comes thru doors if plastic membrane is not intact. Water in front of car can come from rear, hatch seal or rear lights etc

Do a search for other threads on this. Some people have had water coming in via a factory hole in the bulkhead/front chassis leg that is normally taped up and covered in underseal.

9 times out of 10 though its the bulhkead drains bunged up with dead leaves or water coming in via an aerial lead whcih has the added bonus of dripping onto the fuse box and casuing allsorts of wacky electrical problems.

so iv been trying to figure this out still.. after removing all the carpets i noticed the sound proofing under the dash on the passenger side is very wet. Which tells me its coming in from the front. the scuttle is always clear, amd my windscreen seal is good. But my car has a coolant leak.. and the heaters have never really worked since i got it, so do you think its possible that the hoses to the heater matrix cud have a leak somewhere?? or the heater matrix itself is leaking? it would certainly answer my hard to find coolant leak and wet footwell.  :dontknow:
