How to attatch rear badges

Hi all

I bought a second hand tailgate in fab condition, with the holes in for the rear badges.  I tried to put the badges in the holes, but there's far too much space!  Sorry to show my ignorance, but how to you get 'em to stay in place!!!???   :banghead:

Never taken mine off but I think there's little plastic inserts that go in the tailgate holes, which you then insert your badge into?

Can anyone confirm? :dontknow:

Yep, as Hairy says there are little black plastic "inserts" that go into the holes and then the badges clip into these.

badges

Hi guys, I have recently replaced the rear badges on my mk 1 Golf, i got a badge set from Trimsport at a show, they just stick on! Not genuine but are very good. They're quite pricey though (about ?25) but worth it!

An option, maybe,

Yes plastic inserts that go on top of the lugs are how the badges are held in place. However, decent double sided tape will do the trick.

Not for long in this wet winter weather. Don't want to loose you badges whilst driving along. I'd go for the original plastic lugs.

Well obviously do it right if you can.

I've had mine taped on for 18 months using mirror tape (the same that is used in modern production cars to hold the central rear view mirror)

No problems at all!

Scoff all you like - it works!

Methinks the little plastic inserts are "grommets"…closely related to that Wallace chap.

The part number is:

191 853 615 A

dunno what Wallace's part number is tho'

I would suggest that most trim shops (if any local) will have them in stock…they look exactly like those that hold my Elfie's rear s in place.

There are pros and cons for the double sided tape (either or as well as grommets) it makes the badges more difficult to nick (steal!) …at the same time, they could also get busted if someone tries!

Ahhh… thought you meant double sided sticky tape, as in sellotape  . Mirror tape is somewhat more up to the job.

You definitely require the plastic plugs inserting into your tailgate for the badge to slot into. But if your badges are after market copies then they may still be loose in these plugs. I bought some cheap copies once and the moulded pegs on the reverse of the badge just weren't thick enough to provide a tight fit.
