How much to repair?

Morning all.

I am new to the world of MK1 Golf's, but have just bought one which is unfortunately crash damaged. I bought it as a bit of a project cheap, but was wondering if anyone could advise how hard it would be to repair and the rough costs involved? It doesnt look too bad to me, but i am from the world of Jap cars so i dont know.

I have attached some pictures below for your viewing, and i look forward to spending some time with everyone!

Thanks

David

Needs a new front panel skin, bonnet and it will need some slide hammer and heat work to that corner…

with paint etc, looking at about £600-800…

***PM for all your powder coating needs***

Thanks for the reply guys.

I sent some pictures to a bodyshop local to me, and for everything to be done, not including the panels he said about £750, but if i do the front panel and bonnet (Which i am more then capable of doing) then he said to do the rear quarter (No panels needed) and to spray it plus spray the front panel and bonnet blending into the arches he said he would do for £500.

Sound reasonable?

Its still more than the value of the car. Is it Cat C or D?

It hasnt been written off at all as it wasnt delared to the insurance company. I figured if he repaired it, plus the cost of the car in total it would cost around £1300 and the car once repaired would be worth more then that? Your looking at £2000 for a MK1 right?

Without knowing more details on the car, I couldn't say if it were worth £2000 once fixed. Also without looking more closely at the underlying accident damage, can't really say if the repair is cost effective. If the damage is restricted only to the panels you see in the pictures, then it probably is okay, but if its creased or bent other areas, its more involved. Bodged crash repairs tend to be easy to spot, if you're looking for it, so it pays to do it right.

Hi mate

I assume you wrote this before i spoke to you? Would your guy be able to do all the bodywork and are his rates good? As i said i have been advised by my mates 'mate' that he can do all the spraying and rear quarter for £500.

Cheers Simon.
