How do i get the original spec for my car from VW?

hi there.
Just wondering if anyone has a number or a website for finding out the original spec of the car. (ie what it left the factory as) :dontknow:
If anyone has got any info would be much appreciated.
Cheers

I don't think they kept records, at least not so far back as Mk1 production. You should have an option tag on the slam panel, and possibly a sticker in the boot, with option codes on it.

dunno, i will have a look 2morro in the light. the car is a bit-ser it has a mk2 1.8 carb engine, half a clipper kit and leather GTi interior and is on a Y reg. also when i go to get insurance, the reg. plate isnt valid. it may be a written off car bought back.

if it still has the white information sticker in the boot on the strengthening bar? then this tells you what engine, g box and trim, colour etc etc the car was made with, some of these codes will mean nothing unless you can get to a dealers and pick one of the parts guys brain and look at some old spec lists, if the sticker is missing from the boot a duplicate sticker is in the service book front cover if you have that?, if you havent got that then vw should know how or what type it was on leaving Karmann in osnabruck where it would of been built, hope this helps

yes just ring vw milton keynes, one of the nice ladies can answer your q`s
did you check around the boot area? sometimes they put the stickers in a different place, near the spare wheel well under the mat or even inside on the back panel just inside below the lock mechanism, if its there youll need to be a contorsionist to read it though!!! i nearly dislocated both my arms just changing my rear lamps!!! like being in a shoe box that "boot"
