Hello! i am restoring a golf as you might notice. as i was fitting the hood i noticed some gaps that were looking very bad. if you look at the first pic you can see its quit a large gap , just wondering if this couild be adjusted. Also further down you can see pictures of where the end of the fender meets the hood, they are aftermarket fenders, so i guess this is normal? i have my old oem fender mounted on one side to check the fitment, it was just slapped on quickly.

Yep something's not right there indeed. Has the front panel been replaced? If that was too low it would make the bonnet sit too low in relation to the wings

….actually thinking it through maybe it wouldn't as the wing would sit lower too! Bit of a strange one this.

Isn't there usually two rubber buffers that ate located on the bonnet corners. These screw up and down to adjust the bonnet height at the front end.

Yeah, there are adjustable rubbers in the front corners. and yes the front panel is in the process of being changed, so when this picture was taken it was just taped on for testing. but I don't see how the front panel could sit to low, as its sitting against the two frame rails. I've tried lifting the hood til it sits flush with the window wiper panel, but i had to lift it  about 10 cm.
By the way, the wings were just slapped on real quick to see the length difference between OEM and repro. Could it be the hinges to the hood maybe? The adjusting possibilities on the hinges only allow for back and forth movement.

Good point on the front panel although I've seen MK1's where they have been a little out still. Maybe that's just down to quality of panels?

Have you got all the old panels to fit on and see if still the same issue. It may help narrow down if any issue with the panels themselves or if its just an adjustment issue.

Sorry I can't be any more help. I'm sure someone around here will know! :)

the hinges have a little bit of adjustment, also there should be rubber buffers on the wings about 3/4 of the way back which i think help keep it lifted at the back. trouble is on the aftermarket wings on my cabrio they wouldnt fit!

in this pic you can see the square slot for the buffer right at the very bottom right of the picture:

Hello guys! I solved this issue, and it's correct as you say rubjonny, the hinges do actually have a tiny bit of height adjustment (assuming that's what you ment). So this other night i figured i'd go test out this idea i had in my head, that seemed to good to be true. Frankly, what i did was that i loosened the rearmost screws on both hinges while leaving the front screws tight. Then i pressured the hood up, and then re-tightened the rearmost screws. so basically the hood kind of pivoted on the front screws making the rear end of the hood sit a little bit higher when it's closed. And there is actually plenty of play to adjust with.
Thanks for all of the replies!
