help

hi, my mates just brought mk1 gti cab, when he brought it the blokes says that it stalls and thats because its been sat around for a long time and all that is needed is a good couple of runs ( my mate believed that) it was not the case.
The problem is that it will not start first time it takes about 2 minutes turnin over before it bursts and splutters into life. it will run fine when warm but every so often it will hesiatate and mis. also when comin to a holt it sometimes stalls but starts up fine.

please help

If its been sat then it will need a good service, new plugs, cap, arm, leads etc as any car does when its been laid up. Also is there any old fuel in it? It could be that there is old stail fuel in the system which is giving you grief. Drain the tank and also replace fuel filters.

Is the filler neck rusty ? you may have bits from that in there.

I may be wrong but is there a small filter in the disribution head like on the later VW's, I had a similar problem on an Audi when this filter got dirty.

having had this problem now for ages and got it sorted by
changing
filler neck
fuel pump(twice)
fuel filter(twice)
checked fuel lines,  DO clean them out tis a must
dizzy cap and rotor arm
spark plugs
ht leads
then go and find some FORTE specialist injection cleaner and run that through

now shes runnin fine….touch wood

Do you know which one it is. Mates tryin the injection cleaner at the mo. i reckon its the fuel pump sounds like its dragging air in. like its making bubbles or is this noise normal.

they can be quite noisy, the one in now is the quietest of the three ive had, is it forte hes using, redex did nothin

if the fuel pump sounds like its 'bubbling then maybe it has a leaky pipe to it, is theyre any sign of fuel leakage at the pump, youll be able to smell it if theyre is.
the whole fuel system has to be completely clean throughout basicaly with no leaks,
i had leaks everywhere, and i was wondering why i was getting a misfire
