Help saggy roof

I posted a couple of days ago, if anyone could point me in the right direction with my mk1 convertable. I have no photo's avalable, so I will try my best to discribe. The roof is vynl, its has a few ripples around the middle and is lifting above the glas on the doors. When it rains it drips from on the handles for the roof onto the seats (which are white and if someone could give me advise on the best way to clean them I would be greatful). So the roof I belive it maybe the cables that put tension on the front area of the roof may be missing/damaged etc…….

does the rrof have any cracks or signs of shrinking very common with the vinyl roofs

first place I would start is to check the front of the roof and the header seal is clean and also no signs of wear ie tears etc.

when you then close the hood with the handles, they should be some pressure to get then to close and once passed a certain point they will close under their own force. To adjust this the hooks are on threads and can be screwed in to tighten etc. Be carful not to make the handles too tight or they may break.

once youve done all that check the alighment of the door and check the window is up tight against the rubber seal at the top.Should press tightly against the seal, causing it to gently roll over.

to check the tension cables open the hood and check at the back should be visable, giving them a gentle tug will tell you if they are snapped etc. Be careful as if snapped but still in place makes a handy pull for new ones so dont disturb too much.

If non of that lot works then let people know.
