HELP PLEASE! the garage say its terminal!
Hi,
I have recently bought my little mk1 16v. I knew it had a little rust! but they went to repair it and they said at the start that it is not what they do! I have tamen some pics. The car does need work but they are saying that the car would be cheaper to reshell!? Any ideas? or is this the garage trying to get out of it?
The drivers side inside arch above the seatbelt fixing point this is rusted thats fine! howver when they removed the plastic arch thing there was rust damage on the inside otter wheel arch! is this a really expencive job or not?
Thanks
Paddy
the inside is the rust under the seatbelt mount:
look to the right the roundish hole is the fuel filler the brown ish patch is the rust?
please help, as i dont want to sell her or re shell!

Its not the best pic mate, but def dont think reshells in order to start with.
Rear arches are common enough and we all have to do em at some point. Get some better pics up mate - but not to expensive really.
Get ya self a repair pannel and u want it done by a proper welder or else your prob gonna open a can of worms later
Paint job thereafter will prob cost more
Prob best to whack all for arches off so you can checky them and sort all at the same time if need be

its never a reshell mate
every things salvageable. get some more pics up so we can see what the extent of the problem is. if the garage isnt really used to doing stuff like this then take it somewhere where they are… im only saying this cos i know my mate works for a garage and they dont usually do patch work but when they do they butcher it…
you take it to a proper body shop and they will sort it easy as pie

sorry mk1 pat to hijack thread a bit, Blans, Mixer, know any decent fair prices welders in bristol, my battery tray is poo tang! which is strange as rest of car is solid, wana put that on the list of things to do first thing when car is re taxed in March :-) PM ME
Mk1pat, i agree with boys above, perhaps it is more work and hassle for garage you have taken it to, then garage that deals with rust and body work day in day out
best of luck with it

Thought that was the place. Dead common for it to go there… I got mine done at allcar services in crews hole rd in brislington welds were a bit mesy but it's done the trick.. also just had my scuttle repaired by k.s bodyworks in bedminster and am well chuffed with the result.
allcar's work they had to carry out..
looks like they have done the worst cutting the rot out, just give crazyquiff a call for a repair piece

Hi all i have an update for you!
after trawling through loads of places, i found a fellow mk1 follower who happens to be a body work man and owns a scrappy! Ha Work is done now! I am looking forward to seeing her done! He said the gutter run off tube from standard was dripping on top of the inside of the arch!! Well its fixed! I am now looking at the ***t wiring!! Any ideas been quoted 8 hours work @ £45 an hour to get it back to mint nor stupid connectors etc and everything working also to install a headlight upgrade loom! Can you list the wires required for the engine when running a 1.8 16v on bike carbs? will remove the rest… Evetually i will put it through the bulkhead hidden! Also i want to brighten up under the bonnet and rear area shall i get rattle cans in the correct colour or will the come out badly (priming and cleaning 1st)
Also I have a WOLFSBURG STEERING WHEEL FOR SALE!! pm me! PLUS OTHER BITS
