Help! I'm leaking and it won't stop raining :(

Not sure if this is the right place to post this and I had hoped to be a bit more forum friendly before having to send out an SOS, but hey ho such is life.

So I have a MK1 sportline Cabrio with a very soggy passenger seat. There is a fairly persistent drip coming in from the seal right at the front of the front passenger window, pretty much in the corner where the roof clips in. I have looked at it and cannot feel/see any gaps cracks or perishing of the rubber, so I'm a bit stumped as to how this happening :(

I would be Very very grateful for any idea's on this as I don't exactly have anywhere to store the car that's dry (yes I know I'm crazy) and I have to drive around with the CEO in my car in a couple of weeks time ( I can't put him on a soggy seat,  with a roof that drips on him ! eek ).

Hi,

Here is a few hints.

Renew the non setting mastic under the header seal.

Tighten the j hooks to pull the roof in tighter against the header seal.

You may need to renew the foam gasket seals.
These are located under the metal retainers that hold the actual rubber seals in place.
Usual culprit though is the first screw hole under the seal retainer. You need to remove the seal it's self and reapply the sealant around the screw hole and fill the void backward by about 3 inches, before re fitting.
When removing the seals prise from the centre first then slide inwards as there are clips at the end of the retainer sand just pulling the seals out will snap them off.

I think you may just be my new hero :)

I have no idea what some of those bits are  8O , but I've never been one to shy away from learning new tricks so I will do some research and report back when I have either fixed it or failed miserably and had to hand it over to someone with knowhow :)

thankyou muchly xx   :D

Has anyone got a photo guide on this process? I've got the same problem with my cab  :banghead:

The J hooks are the chrome hooks that locate into the windscreen pillars to lock the hood in position.
These are adjusted by undoing the locking collar and winding the hook inwards, this pulls the hood in tighter.
Only do a bit at a time though.

The header seal is the long rubber seal that runs across the top of the windscreen frame, the front part of the frame presses onto this.

Simple really, run some masking tape just under the seal and apply non setting mastic under the seal starting from the sides and inwards by about 7 inches.

Guide here.

The foam gaskets are strips of foam that are under the retainers for the 6 side seals that, contact the top of the windows.

Easy really.

Were the silicone goes.

have a look at the hood replacement guide on here, you'll see the process for removing the side rubbers and once off you'll see the foamy bits as mentioned. just take care when rtemoving the rubbers not to snap the little plastic clips at the end, you have to pop the rubber out in the middle then slide the ends inwards if that makes sence
