got a few probs with my mk1 gti…
cant get the reversing lights to work?
the mfa did not work,i swapped the clocks, now the mfa works but the mpg guage does not?
speedo needle flickers..what is the round thing that the cable goes into(near wipper motor?), there are wires coming out of this thing but they go no where?
when i excellerate the drivers seat seems to rock back and forwards?

Hi,

Reversing light is probably related to a problem with the reversing light switch on the top of the gearbox.  See Lahsa post on how to get a new one modified to suit.

MPG Gauge - have you connected the vacuum hose on the back of the clocks?

Have you a pic of the area you are talking about?

Check you have the small bolt that stops the seat going back too far.  Also check you have the plastic/rubbery thing beteen the front seat guide and the seat runner in the middle of the seat.

i have just got the mpg thing working..swapped it for my old one.
i took some bits off a scirocco and saw rubber bits near where the seat adjuster is, i take it there should be some on my golf? where do i get them? can i get them new from vw?
will check switch…
my speedo cable comes from my gear box to a small cylinder shaped thing,there is another cable from here to the speedo head. what does the cylinder shaped thing do? it has wires from it but it looks like they have been cut.

Sounds like the speedo cable is not the original Mk1 as there is no wires from it that I can remember.

There is a banana shaped part that fits in a hole on top of the seat adjuster bracket.  The seat slides back and forward on this piece of plastic.  They are available from VW.
