Help, can't lock the boot! Convertible mk1

Never had an issue with the boot lock before this morning.

Opened the boot as normal and got something out.
Went to turn the key in the lock to lock it again and the lock won't budge (key won't turn).

Took the key out again, I can open and shut the boot with no problems, but just can't turn the key in the lock to secure it.

Have tried both keys to no avail.  Got the access panel off to get to the back of the lock, but not really sure what to check next?

Is this a fault people have had before?

Strange, is it an early Cabby? I don't have to turn the key to secure mine, it just locks itself!

I assume you've had a good look at the mechanism and can see if it's jammed or not, try some good ol' WD40 on it!

Yeah, it's an '85 GL.

Tried plenty of WD40, air duster, lithium grease. No success.
Got to all of the mechanism at the back but can't see anything obviously wrong other than a jammed lock that won't turn.

could take the lock mechanism apart and take a look.
