Gsf seat cable probs

Help! Not sure whats going on….

I got the longer cable from gsf for my campaign seat. No probs getting in to the seat, but the cable doesnt fit! Its either too long ot too short depending on how you route it. So i measured it. Gsf dscribe it as 596mm long (part no 88522), the cable they sold me is in fact about 700mm long, and when i measured the cable that came out (taped it together with overlap) and that was 750mm  8O  ! The new cable has a short red sleve on marked 'Germany 435 020 5204'

Any experience with these cables anyone??? Have gsf made them wrong? I might just make my own out of bicycle cable and crimps :dontknow:

there not much from vw, and your more likely to get the right one.

Bought exactly the same thing at weekend and had the same problem, didnt measure it but it was about 10mm to long. Had been working on golf all day so was fed up, ended up tieing a knot in the cable to make it fit    I'm sure it will snap again soon and i'll be back trying to sort it out :x

I havent had much experience with gsf ive bought about 4 things but not 1 has fitted propley!
? Fuel filler neck - had to heat and bend because vertical and horizontal alignment was wrong.
? Cable!
? door handle - asked for a genuine vw part they tryed to give me 1 with codes scratched out on back (obviousley not genuine). Took it back asked for another 1, it was the same! then asked for a copy (?10 cheaper) and they gave me exaclty the same handle again!  

I am going to try my best not to use them from now on.

had a word with vwpartsman, they can still get 1 of the cables, so gonna go and order one. Will let you know how that works when i get it.

just ordered one in part number: 191 881 595   cost  ?5

will get it next tuesday, also took the other cable back to gsf and got a refund no probs.

 

You will need to specify the year of your car as there are different lengths.

Right, back from holiday so can post about final outcome.

Despite clearly going through what i wanted, what year and model etc…, the VW parts man managed to order the wrong one :dontknow: . What turned up was the short cable on the drivers/right hand side ?? I got him to order the right one, and he even said he mail it to me, nice. I've come back from hols to find the cable waiting for me, i fitted it and FINALLY I have the right one!!  8O    8) I can tip my seat forward with the lever!! :mrgreen:

It even came with 2 white nylon sleeves on it, however i couldnt get these to fit where nesc, so just left them off. The orig cable lasted around 15/20 years, figure should be ok.

You will more than likely find the door handle was genuine, dont ask me why but a few suppliers remove genuine part numbers  :? i have had that on lower ball joint fitting kits and lower cambelt covers

I've fixed those seat cables by using the inside bit of a "choc bloc" wire connector (you know, the 12-way ones with a metal insert and 2 screws each position).  Chop the insert out of the block.  Use a bicycle brake cable or some spare seat cable and you can join the bits of cable together.  Just make sure that the join isn't where the cable runs round a corner!
