grill problems

I bought a D reg cabriolet , its 1.8 carburettor. it came without a front grill and the lights missing . the guy gave me a gti grill and said it was the same but It doesnt seem to fit.   Does anyone know if there is a difference in the shape at all.

it may be a mk2 grille.?
mk1 grilles should fit floppies.

i think you will have a grill that fits golfs from 1975-1983. the later cabriolets have a different fitting (that of a mk2?  :dontknow: )

Sounds like a late style grill, you can make them fit by cutting off a couple of clips and cable tieing it on - this is what ive done as I have a cab style 5bar grill on mine  

Thanks for the replies guys.   i was pretty sure that something was wrong and i have cut a piece off the top and removed the clips from the bottom and tied with cable ties.
