GPC wings

Just wondered if anyone had got any wings of these people as they are cheaper than VW and the guy i spoke to reckons they are genuine as they come from germany?.

They may be from Germany  :dontknow: but they do not fit as well as original items . But yes they are a lot cheaper , i think my Gen Wings cost me ?166.00 a pair .

You can tell the difference between them , the non genuine ones do not have a crisp wing mounting line and feel lighter , genuine wings also have a VW/Audi logo on the inner mounting part near the centre mounting . Worth remembering if you are offered any 2nd hand .

my pattern wings tend to stick out a little more than the body line to the door as well, so they'd need a little tinkering to get right! and a Mk1 guru can spot them a mile away

IMO stick to original if you can

So do the wings need to be off the car to check for the logo, i.e is it on the face that mates with the car, or on the face visible with the wing on the car? Which bolt  holes is it between assuming that the one closest the windscreen is number 1 say?

dani,

They need to be off the car and the logo is just below the second hole down on the rear flange.  When painted this can be hard to see but you should be able to none the less.

I have also seen the VAG logo on the top of front wings, in between the bolts which are exposed when you open the bonnet.

Obviously much easier to check, if the wings are still on the car (!) but the mark isn't on all of the wings that I've seen, so don't assume that they are pattern wings just because this top logo isn't present…

They will probably still have the VW picking sticker on them anyway as mine did. GPC import loads of parts direct from VW dealers in Germany because it is cheaper (not so much now though) and because there is so much more dealer stock, even for parts marked obsolete on ETKA

Dan when you collect them make sure they have no dents i had to reject one of the wings i bought as it had 10p coin size ding in it , you do not want to be filling new wings before there painted .
