hi there i am not sure about speakers but not all parcel shelves are the same so you need to make sure that you get a cabby one.

think that lawsy might even have a cabby parcel shelf with 6X9 holes already in , i will speak to him and get him to reply to this thread…

15.5cm oval = 6x4 speakers.  Fairly limited to range with this custom size but the likes of jbl and infinity (+others) do decent enough ones.  You're never going to get nightclub volume out of these wee fellas

Like mrsL says only cab shelves fit cabs.

i will get lawsy to double check if we have one, however when we had a cabby with 6 x 9's in the parcel shelf when the roof was up you could hardly hear them..

I put Alpine oval speakers in the front of my cabby. They just fit straight in. Good clarity with them but they aren't much cope when the hood is down. The back 6x9s are covered then and I haven't replaced the ones in the rear quarters yet. Audioscape do door builds which may be worth a look, depends on how much you want to spend at the end of the day.

i would run the 6x4's in the front and use bass blockers, that way you won't blow them to pieces but will keep the sound balanced by having it in the front, you could do the same with the 10cm's and then fit a sub, or run the 6x9's.
you can pick up the bass blockers in any good car audio shop.. and they just fit inline on the speaker wire, the jbl's or infinity's are a good choice however frustratingly expensive for their size!

for starters dont use a stock parcel shelf to hold speakers. they are to flimsey and will flap about destroying sound quailty.
an mdf panel is the best bet as mdf is stable. there are companies out there that will make you a shelf (try stealth) but they are not cheap.

For the diy method. take your parcel shelf out. draw round it on a sheet of 12mm mdf and cut out. you may be best to add some strength with a peice of 30x12 wood across the back. you can buy acoustic carpet from any good car audio place or have a look on ebay.
secondly neither 6x4 or 6x9 are bass speakers.
for that you will need something bigger than a 10" sub.

for resonable sound quality i'd suggest either 4" components in the front (you would have to make an adapter to fit into the 6x4 hole) or some decent 6x4 speakers. these will handle the treble or high frequency of the music. to filter out anything below you will need to fit crossovers (these are what andybbt is calling a bass blocker)

now to handle the mid range.
i hate 6x9's with a passion. they do not generate good sound quality. i would look at either 6" or 8" components mounted in the parcel shelf (this is not ideal as they are behind you but is a resonable compromise) again with a a cross over but this time to remove the treble and bass so all they handle is the mid range as they are intended.

now to add the bass (which is the bit you most likely want)
a good 10" sub in an acoustic box placed in the boot is a good place to start. add to that a suitable amp (you don't really need larger than 175 watts but then it depends if you want to turn it up and make your ears hurt) most amps act as a cross over so no need on this unless you find it flapping. if the sound is not getting past the parcel shelf a bass tube can be fitted which with help to port the sound out of the boot cavity.

all of this should be done using good speaker wire for the none amped speakers and a good RCA cable for the amp. all of which should be low oxygen and in the region of 100 strands or more. a good head unit will make a lot of difference aswell as will good connections behind it.

ignore the 2 way 3 way speakers that are out there if you can. you want nice full cones to drive the air and have no loss.

there is more but i'm bored of typing this now.
have fun

When I bought my Cabby it already had holes cut in the parcel shelf????
I wondered what the point was when the roof is folded down it covers the speakers anyway….I have installed new speakers in the rear, but could do with some replacements for the fronts, the originals are still in the pockets, like already stated they don't take to kindly to turned up volume.
