Front wings
My front wings have been looking a little worse for wear for the past two years but after a recent trip i now have a large hole in one, shame as the car is coming off the road in the summer for some attention to the bodywork, any tips on lining up new front wings? plan is to have a spare set painted and fit them, hate doing things twice but its kinda dangerous now

I am in exactly the same situation but have just found a new genuine set [ see my last post in this section ]. I intend to paint them on the car so as to cover all the new bolt heads and sealant that i will use when i replace them , i will of course prime and seal the inner part of the wing before i fit them to provide good rust prevention . From experience genuine wings are far better than the ?30.00 GSF ones just depends what you can afford .
As for fitting your "new wings" should fit like the old ones ! might seem daft but by that i mean even gaps all round and the door and bonnet lines nice and straight , only fully tighten all the fixing bolts when you are happy with the fit and weeks before you remove the old wings give the fixing bolts a good soak in WD40 a few times to aid removal
Cheers Chudd….

I replaced my wings with genuine VW wings from a neary mint mk1 in the scrap yard. The hardest bit is removing all the mastic that secures it to the door post and from around the heads of the bolts. Fitting I still had to mess about to get the panel gap just right using fine washers. While the wings were off I heavily coated everywhere with wax oil.

The wings i have as replacements are mint used vw items, have already had the drivers side wing off once (2 years ago) so know what a job it is getting them off :? plan to strip both front wings back to bare metal inside and out, zinc primer on the inside, primer the outside then top coat inside and out side, will give the inside a good coat of clear wax once they are fitted, coming off again later in the year anyway when i strip it all right down, due to a previous resto taking me the best part of 2 years due to lack of funds and having to get parts etc im trying to get all the parts before i start and have some funds asside, hoping that if i have the parts and 4k to spend i should have it all done pretty quick, just gotta get this garage built! be nice 30 feet by 14ft by 7ft inside with an atic for storage above (6ft ish headroom), maybe go a little higher in case i ever want to stick a ramp in, anyway thats enough of my grand plans

Also looking to change my front wings. Just had new front panel fitted, which looks spot on - problem is has highlighted bad fitting wings  . This is a combination of me fettling the wings to fit the old out of shape front panel and that they now appearto be pattern replacements.
Assume that the genuine wings are no longer available from VW, so best bet is to get looking for a decent second hand pair to respray - keeping eyes open for a concours GTI that has been shunted heavily from behind

Really - can't honestly afford them, but the thought of that new, shiney, perfectly shaped metal hmmm….. . What is the going rate for a second hand pair?

Did anyone suss out if the SA Citigolf front wings were the same as the original Mk1 wings?
If so I am sure Rich (crazyquiff) would be able to source those for those wnating the original VW panel fit.
