Front Seat Problems

Hi

I am having problems with my front seats, and seen as i havent seen any working correctly before i need some help finding out whats missing and what the problem is.

Basically they are very wobble in the runners. Now on my rear legs of the seats they are metal and they seem to small for the runner itself causing it to wobble, are there meant to be plastic clips or anything that go over the metal legs to allow them to fit snug?

Also what is used to fix the front of the seat to the runner? Currently someone has fixed mine with a nut and bolt through the hole. Is this correct? If so how do i get the seat to go forward and backwards as mine doesnt!?

I hope this makes sense, and i hope someone can help me out.

Cheers

David

yup you want these  http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/…ts_SM&hash=item3efc8e2ce3

There should be a sliding pin that hooks onto the handle on the seat.  it sounds to me like it's had mk2 seats fitted as in that case the handle would be on the wrong side. rather than thinking about it and swapping the handles from the passenger to driver and vise-versa they've just bolted it down.

Pm funk-star or anyone whos breaking a golf and ask for the pins and springs.

Jon.

Had the same wobble problem with my driver seat, got some of the clips off Ebay as per link above. Only problem is that the clips fit the seat legs but they won fit in the outside runners? Seems like theres far to much plastic, tried swaping them around as they were 2 different types(inners & outers) but made no difference.
Anyone got any ideas as the wobble is driving me mad.

They do go in mate, they are a very tight fit though, i assume to stop the wobble. Be persistant and forceful and they should go in.

I was persistant, SO persistant that i broke the clips! I was doing the job on my own so maybe next time get a hand.
Been looking on Crazy Quiffs and the clips they have on there seem different from the ones on Ebay, can anyone confirm this?

Apparently it can depend on the age of the car.
The front rubber bit that goes near the nut and bolt that holds the front down in the centre rail were different on early cars.
The later ones can take the rubber bit on the front. As to the seat guide clips I would of thought that these would be the same.
It can be tricky getting the seats back in afterwards, so you need a little grease to help slide them back. Just make sure the carpet is not fouling and the channels are clear.
You need to slide the seats back evenly as if you twist them they just foul and get stuck.

I just had the 2 square parts not the triangular bit, is that for the seat centre rail?

All of mine were square ones, not triangle. My MK1 is an '83 model.

I put the clips on, got someone to hold the seat in the beginning of the runners and then pushed hard from behind on the base of the seat, drivers was more of a pain but eventually went in.
