both wings first. then spot welds need drilled out, and also a paste that joins the wings to the fron panel.
Hyanes Restoration Manual for golfs is very good on the topic.

Drill out all of the spot welds. Make sure you have plenty of drill bits. I snapped about 5.
Took me 3 to 4 hours to get it off…

Thanks for the info. Those pictures are good as I hadnt even thought about supporting the engine, I always jump in two feet feet first instead of planning it. I removed the rear valance yesterday to find an old rusty valnce under it. If your replacing a panel why dont people do it properly.

You don't need to support the engine - Well I didn't?
What I did do though was to cut a piece of 2x4 the right length to wedge between the two chassis legs BEFORE I cut the crossmember out. The weight of the engine hanging on the two side mounts could pull the legs a bit… It was certainly wedged in a lot tighter once the member was cut out!

I used a normal drill bit and drilled all the way through, that way I was left with holes in the front lip of the car that I could weld through to fix the new panel.

I was always advised to support the engine from the bottom, this way the weight if taken off the side panels. I think all the methods being used in this thread will work though

Looks like im going to be doing this in the next few weeks too
few questions!
the complete hadrians front panel, is it complete, as in crossmember etc, everything on the front of the car basically?
and is it a good fit? iv had some inner wing sections that left some to be desired and the outer wings were a shocking fit, from hadrians
once the spot welds are drilled out, where else is it jointed?
if i cut out the front of an inner wing at the same time, what will i go off to line the panels up properly?
cheers
