fixings for roof bars

I am thinking of fabricating my own roof bars as there seem to be very few good looking sets out there or they are roof racks that seem to be well over priced.

Anyway what i am requesting are some pictures of fixing from the roof bars to the roof of the car to give me a few ideas i can start with.
