Fitting rear windscreen wiper motor/mech

Hi,

Is there a certain technique for fitting a rear windscreen wiper motor/mech to a Mk1?

All i've achived so far is chipping the paint, do I have to remove anything from the mechanism to get it in place, I can clearly see where the bolts line up but i'm struggling to maneuver it in place  

Did you ever get this sorted as I am in the same boat?

It's been a fair while since I've done one, but whilst a little fiddly and potentially finger-cutting, I thought it was straight forward to slot in?

What's the issue, it wont fit?

I can get the motor in and the linkage but cant adjust the linkage when in. Fiddly definately. Maybe I need to remove again and start fresh

Maybe it is a start over job. It's just so long since I've done one I'm not sure.
