First attempt at spraying front panel

well, been busy the past few weeks.. thought I'd post a couple of pictures of how it's going

Picture's don't do it much justice, there's a couple of areas that I'm not happy with but want to drive it too much so it'll be good enough for now, and the bumper covers most of it anyway.

If I can get the rear arches smooth this weekend I might even be able to get the rest of the car sprayed too  :D  :D  :D

Update

this sanding down business is FAR more annoying than I'd thought when doing an entire car  :banghead: fill a bit, sand a bit… Bugger…missed a bit.. fill a bit, sand a bit….. you get the picture!

well this is the most recent picture, still not completely happy with the wheel arches but they'll do, the roofs sanded down and ready, just got the finish the front scuttle and around the doors! then hopefully I can spray it

let me know what you all think!

Cheers
Phill

Looking good Phill. Prepping can be slow going, but well worth making sure you have got nice flat clean surfaces. Are you handsanding or using a power sander? Can't beat doing the bodywork yourself, very satisfying.- reminds me I need to do mine  .

Phil
looks good , the prep work makes the finished product . If your not happy with anything , have a break then try again until your are 100% happy with it . After the shine of the top coat has gone on any poor prep work will stand out a mile . Filling and sanding is a ball ache but when you stand back and look at your nice shiny MK1 in its finished state you will see it has been worth the effort .

Cheers and good luck…

Thanks guys.. I sanded the roof down with a drill and sanding disc but the rest so far is done by hand!

it does get annoying, put in all this work so far and still got miles to go! at least I get supplied lots of tea to keep me going

I think once I've got the shell sprayed I'll regain the motivation I need to finish it and will have a huge cheesy grin  :D

One thing that's annoyed me though is the passenger door had about an inch of filler where the skin has ripples, and like a female mating piece I've took it back to bare metal and need to fill it all over again  :banghead: should have just took it back far enough to spray! lesson learnt though
