Finally got around to fitting my 'mono'
A 1983 Blaupunkt MW/LW mono receiver. No FM and no casette. Your average audio equipment for 1983!!
I've had this kicking about in my box of bits for a while because it needed a new zener diode… (took me ages to get it to work, sitting on a bench going around with a circuit tester - finally figured out what I needed to replace.. 25p from Maplins! :roll and it is now fitted and working. Sound quality is awful, tuning is difficult and there isn't really a great deal to listen to either…. and the radio cuts out when you go under bridges and power cables…..
….love it! It takes 30 secs to warm up  , has a single light (and I mean light, not an LED… infact it is a real light dressed up to look like an LED, how's that for mutton dressed as lamb!) to illuminate everything :lmao: and it has a lovely sort of crackly 70s sound. :y:
Controls are:
Off and On + Volume
A 'tone' dial
Tuning dial
5 push buttons, one for LW and 4 for MW. You can pull them out and then push in again to lock in a frequency.
It originally was designed to only power one speaker at 5Watts. The 'handbook' that comes with it describes how to bridge the outputs to allow 'twin channel sound' (poor mans stereo) if "your car has a sophisticated two speaker setup" ! To do this you have to solder a connect and tweak one of the variable resisters to give a whopping 7.5watts output, wooah!
Who needs high fidelity? Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a compact flash port for my mp3s…

Drew.
