Fiberglass Wings. Opinions please.

These look good. I can't get the Clubgti link to work though. Anyone use these on here?

I should imagine being copied off genuine wings they will be a pretty good fit and half the price and best of all no rust!

I obviously have the same reservations about look/fitment of these wings as you do! I'd like to hear more on these if anyone has already fitted some to their own car.. :? ?

I would get some steel wings, if you get pattern ones and you're going to paint them off the car its best to offer them up first and get them to fit before you paint them.

time will come when theres no genuine vw wings , most pattern panels pretty rusty , think i would be sorely tempted to go fibreglass

ive just had the same dilemma but chose pattern cos me gti is a mongerel of differnt golfs

I bought a set of these a few months back off that chap but hav'nt fitted them as yet. I couldnt get patteren ones to fit for love nor money, well not to the standard i'd like anyway.

By offering them up they do seem a VERY good fit, and being fibreglass they are that bit more malleable.

the ony thing i was dissapointed with is the prep work they will need, they are NOT ready to paint straight away, i found the edges were a bit raggy and will need a quick skim and smooth to look right, some of the moulding waste needs to be cut away inside also to fit on.

If you buy a set expecting a bit of prep work (which i didnt!) i'm sure you'll be more than happy with them  :wink:

Are they much lighter than the steels ones?
I would have thought so, but anyone know for sure?

I have fitted a set and as said they will need a skim of filler before painting. I had to trim a few bits off here and there to get them to fit but once done the fit is pretty decent. Not perfect but better than pattern wings. Of course you can't whack them with a hammer and dolly to get into shape as you can with metal wings.

As for weight they are almost half the weight of the pattern wings I had.

Very happy with them myself and also got a bonnet and tailgate from the same guy. Not fitted the tailgate yet but the bonnet is again, a pretty decent fit. Not 100% but can be tweaked to get pretty even panel gaps all round.

What are they lke painted next to the steel panels? I always think that painted fibreglass looks a bit more plasticy. Had a flip front on my mini and always looked different although painted at teh same time. Any photos?

Don't know. Not had it re-sprayed yet. Sat in my garage waiting for some time…  

Right then, dragging this up again in the hope that some more folk have fitted them with good results?

I'm about to buy some either non genuine or these fibreglass ones so just a last minute make my mind up time!

I belive thats who made the wings I have… the fits ok, not 100% as a gen wing, but then it had been hand made and not forumed using a press, and with a bit of work with the sander and filler they would be 100% spot on, from a couple of feet away as I go flying by the look fine put it that way    and mine are still as they came in gel coat
