Extra stripe down the side

Do people think that all pre facelifted mk1 gtis (series1 on this site) had the extra stripe down the side, halfway up the door and underneath or above the black strip?
I've never seen any 80s golfs with this stripe as original, but I havnt seen any original series 1s either.
I need to put all the stripes back on so I would like people's opinions, but I think i will put it on to make it stand out from the 80s examples.
Also, where do I get the stripes from/who do I get to do them for me or diy/do I have to cut the rear window seal to apply the black surround?
Thanks.

Trimsport in somerset do the stripes.

Rear window has to come out to do the hatch stickers (relatively easy to take out)

It's the vinyl sticker stripes that go down the sides of the car and along the base of the tailgate.  Santos' early gti has the extra silver stripe.

my black '81 facelifted model that we originally imported from Germany had 2 small silver stripes under the side metal strips.

my campaign has a single thicker strip going down the side.

black cars obviously didn't have the black vinyl rear window surround.

Both my Series 1 GTi's have the silver strip below the waistline moulding. There is a picture of it in the photo gallery.

When launched in this country, the Golf GTI was only available in three colours: red, white and black.

Both the red and white would have the black surround decal around the rear window, and the thick/thin black stripes near the bottom of the sides. (Remember thick stripe at the bottom and not like the 'restored' Golf GTI in the Wheeler Dealer TV programme. :?) There would have been a black stripe along the bottom of the hatch. These colours would not have had the single swage centre line stripe below the metal trim. A picture of an unregistered while (Pirelli) GTI can be seen here:

The black GTI is different again in that it did not have the black surround decal for the rear window but had silver thick/thin stripes on the sides and on the bottom of the tailgate. The black would have also had a silver centre stripe (below central metal trim) along the sides. As this decal set applies to all black Mk1 GTIs - a picture of a NEW LHD campaign (with 15' Pirelli alloys) can be seen here:

All metallic colours of later cars would have had the black surround around the rear window and the thick/thin stripes as well as the hatch stripe. I would have to check some period photographs as to whether they had the centre line stripe.

I am sure this is rignt.

This is not quite right, the small light GTi's for the UK were only available in Mars Red, Black and Diamond Silver, not white.

Ok you guys have confused me.
So a silver one should have
the lower door black thick/thin stripe
black round the hatch.
black line along bottom of back hatch
BUT unlike the black ones no line under the metal side strip along the side of the car?
am i correct in thinking that last part?

I think the Black one was the only colour that got the extra stripe down the side as the black moldings do not stand out as on other colours my series one came with this strip as standard like the 'v' reg one in the gallery. 8)

Helios Blue came with it too.

How thick should the extra stripe be down the sidde of the car? I heard somewhere that the thickness differs depending one whether its a series 1 or series 2. Is this true?
