Early Bonnets.

Hi All,

I put an advert under the 'Wanted' section for a bonnet to suit my Mk1 Golf GTI. However, having been offered a few, a friend set the alarm bells ringing by suggesting that early bonnets are different !.

Can anyone confirm whether the bonnet for a 1977 build Mk1 GTI is different to a later one ?. Also if anyone has one in Mars Red I'd be very interested !.

I recall, from many years ago, taking a bonnet from a 79-80 car and fitting it on my 76 LS. It went on without any issues.

I think that size wise etc they are all the same and will fit any year car but very early bonnets didn't have the extra line near the bottom running across just the 2 running down. Pretty sure these were only on the super early cars and are now rather hard to come by. If anyone could confirm that?

Some bonnets have the washer jet in a different location. Not sure of exact years etc but my '80 s1 is different to my '81 s2 in this way

The very early bonnet didn't have the pressing line that runs across the front lip.
These were only on the VERY early cars (swallow tails?) - '74, and possibly '75

My car does have the line across the front of the bonnet, so it looks like I will just have to be careful about the washer jet location.
