Drivers' side window problem

Hi,

Just bought a Campaign GTi mk1. loving the car but lots of work to do. One of the problems is the window on the drivers side is not closing properly - there is a gap at front and its really stiff to wind up. Looks to me the seals are ok but it needs a new winding mechanism due to wear - do you guys
agree?
