Door hanging low
Hey, my driver door is doing my head in now, there seems to be alot of movement in the hinges or something as the door hangs low. It make closing the door a real hassle because you have to lift it up while slamming it shut.
I just wondered if anyone else has had this problem and could tell how they got it fixed.
Thankyou.

if the door is hanging low on an angle, do it the old fashioned way. open the car door wide, and just lift the opening end of the door. with some serious heave ho the do will come up level.

I had the same grief a few years back and my bodywork guy put new door hinge pins in and it sorted it.
It was only rubbing the sill but enough to remove the paint work down to bare metal .
I think the pins are still available from any vw garage and they were on €9.00 each at the time

first check if its hinge play. if it is, then you should change the pins rather than using other methods as all you're doing is bodging around the problem! believe me. i put new doors on with fresh hinges and they didnt fit right due to bodginess going on before! so had to bodge them back straight

Can you pack the top hinge with washers on these? (Scirocco trick, I've not looked to check on the golf)
Of course, it's no substitute for changing the pins, but if there's wear in the hinge itself rather than just the pins, it'll need boring out and a larger diameter pin fitted…

yeah the washer trick, wheel bolt in the door trick, jack the door up trick and other related tricks will all work mk1/2 golf/scirocco etc with varying success
I've tried them all on my cabby and mk2 and the only way to sort it properly is to replace the lower pin. the washer trick at least wont bend anything so it'll be straight when you do replace the hinges!
