Door Check Straps
PLEASE HELP !!
I have 92 Rivage Cab and the original door check straps have expired.
I have been to VW and spoken with GPC and they both advise that the original part has been upgraded. In lieu of the original strap VW (TPS)have sold me a 3 black metal brackets and a larger strap that does not fit the original holes.
As the replacement strap is not a direct replacement and the brackets are not shown on the VW diagram i cannot work out how they bits fit my car.
Has anybody else experienced this - who should i speak to, as the VW parts guy has not got a clue

Firsly…..welcome to the site, nice to see you found us!
I just assumed they were no longer available and sought decent secondhand ones - didn't know VW were selling an upgraded new part. I imagine part of the fitting would involve cutting the holes to be slightly larger, etc, which sounds like they've supplied the wrong part!
EDIT just checked, it says the part has been dropped without replacement - make of that what you will

Thanks Paul
The part numbers are as follows:
Check Strap/rod - 171 837 251
Bracket(Pair) - 171 831 381A
Bracket (2)(pair) - 171 831 333
I have been told that the 3rd bracket set is described as an A Pilar reinforcer !!
The brackts are black like new body panels which made me sus as they will need paint.
Is it easy to find good used ones?

Find some from a passenger side door, they won't have been used as much, or even better rear doors of a 4 door (think they are still the same) they will be like new.
Not sure if MK2 Golfs or other 80s VWs Polos and Passats used the same design? should easily be able to find those in a scrap yard
