DIY Big light to Cabby light

I got bored earlier on today so rang one of my mates and asked if he wanted to help me destroy the back end of my golf. obviously he was reluctant but managed to make him come when i said i was gonna try and do a swallowtail conversion without and swallowtail components.

this is how it looked when we began..

so first of all we removed the old lights, and trial fitted the new ones in to see what they would look like.. obvioulsy a big gap and no holes matching up but we had our trusty drill and grinder so we a play..

i also had an old bonnet kicking about which decided would be useful to fill the old holes hehe, so after cutting a 6 inch panel out, and cutting part of the original light panel to get the outer corner bolt holes to line up it ended up looking like this..

and a bit more cutting and drilling for new bolt holes in the 'bonnet' rear panel..

dont actually think it looks too bad, just needs a bit of filler doing to smooth the panel in at the bottom and to fill some gaps under the lights :) :)

job done

yeah, the colour match is spot on aint it? :D

dont worry, it will be welded in place properly but im useless at welding so gotta wait til my mate can get it in at his place to do it, rivets are just a temporary thing for now :)
