dash light bulb question

I saw a post on here somewhere about the small bulbs that light up the speedo etc,mine are 1.2w and i am shure someone said you could get 2w and there was a part number(VW) with the post.The lights on my car are not very bright so I thought i would upgrade to 2w,any one help please

I would think they are a bit powerful for Mk1 wiring?  If not then I will be ordering some!

These bulbs are available from any motor factors, I got mine from Wilco Motosave.

@ gismorat - have you adjusted the lighting level on the rheostat dial above the switch? I remember not knowing about that in my first VW Corrado, I was driving up the M1 late at night and knocked the dial, plunged the dash into darkness and had a brown trouser moment!!!  :lol:

Yeeh i  know about that thanks mate,have had my car for 23 years so i know every nook and cranny,been woithout it for 10 years,never realised that the illumination on the dash was so dull,must be getting old. :D Even the headlight dont seem bright and i am running 100w dip and 130w full beam,its ok with the grill spots on cause they  8) are 100w

I've had loads of others as well while it sat on a ramp for 8 years,BMW E30 325i touring,jeep grand Cherokee orvis,Porsche 911(993 C4S) and nowi have my little golf back and my 57 splitscreen camper :D

Just double checked the bulbs in my gauges and they are 3w, so must be fine to use at least 3w.

Dare I try 5w??
