Clay Sticks

Hiya gang!

Just wondering if any of you have "detailed" - i hate that word! So for all you traditionalists out there…

have any of you cleaned your car using one of these "clay sticks" at all?

Are they as good as they`re cracked up to be?
 What`s your findings with them?
 Any recommended brands?

I hate the americanised word "detailing" too, prefer "minting" or "generally looking after and keeping on top in an enthusiast type way" meself

Clay bar kits are for removing overspray/tar/small surface contaminants etc,and will give a very smooth finish…even if you think its good already.

Ideal for old original paint or paint that hasn't been correctly looked after by means of a good cleaning/polishing/waxing process.

I currently have a christmas offer on the meguiars clay bar kit. :)

used this on a friends mk.2 oak green gti. paintwork was really rough, even with a good t-cut and polish.used the meguiars clay bar (smells good enough to eat!).  was amazed at how much crap came off the paintwork. looked fantastic afterwards, well worth the effort.

I first started using claybar last year.  It has changed my life when it comes to preparing the paint for polish and waxing.

It is important to remove road tar and tree sap from the paint FIRST.  Clay bar cannot remove these heavier deposits without becoming over contaminated itself.

Use plenty of "quick detailer" which is similar to spray wax - or simply using a lot of water as you would wetsand paint.

I prefer to only run front to back motions along the lines of the car - that way if it scratches, it won't be as bad as if rubbing in circles or across the lines of the car.    Roll the clay bar often to keep a fresh side on the car.  DO NOT LET WHATEVER YOU LUBRICATE THE CLAY DRY ON THE CAR - it is a pain to remove later.

Then polish, wax, seal or whatever you sacrifice to the   DETAILING   gods.

The first time I did it was a religious experience for me.  Smooth as silk paint!
