cheap run around!

Hi all I recently bought myself a cheap black 1983 mk1 gti to use as a run around while I sorted the clutch out on my Rallye, easy fix I thought and be fun to drive around in………… well you probably know how these things go, turned out that it needed a new fuel filler neck and fuel tank  this ment removing the rear beam, that saw of the crusty old break lines and fuel lines as they didnt apreciate being disturbed, as I've been lurking on here for a while I knew this ment an order needed placing with Mr Crazyquiff for a compleat set of fuel pipes, then i thought while I've got the beam off might as well give it a refurb so off it went to get sand blasted along with various other bits that were a bit scabby, once back a new coat of paint, powerflex bushes, break cylinders, goodridge braided lines, and new shoes its almost ready to go back together.
The previous owner was a bit of a boy racer and had made some "improvements!" including hand painting various bits of the dash board in silver nice! on to ebay I go and well then I start looking fof bits to put it back to how it should be needless to say this is no longer going to be a cheap runaround!
oh I didn't like his choice of wheels either so got a bit carried away bidding on these, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/…eName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=003 at least they have centre caps hey!

Poor rallye is still sitting ouside the house wondering where its new clutch is!

  same happened with my Cab. I bought it as a cheap run around but ended up spending a small fortune on servicing, brakes, a light respray of the bonnet edge, leather interior and polished wheels. I've stopped now thankfully.

Hi and welcome to the club manxman

get some pics up of the Mk1.. and the rallye

think 80% of my Mk1 has parts supplied by Crazyquiff   he's got me out of a few problems

so is the Mk1 going to be a keeper now? be a shame putting all that work in getting it up to scratch only to sell it on
