can i buy just this piece? pic inside...

The splined bolt holding on my drivers wiper sheared off one morning after a hard freeze when i turned on the wipers so i took it apart for a look. pic 1.
I thought i could get just the new piece that was required (pic 2) incl the bit that sheared off (pic 3) but im unsure whether id be able to replace just that piece. i see crazy quiffs sell the whole wiper linkage. it has a part no. on the back so could i just get this part on its own?

About 5-6 years ago I obtained a spindle assy via my local friendly Independent VW man from the VW Stealership no problem but I'm not sure if they are now obsolete !

The spindle assy comes complete with the bearing housing which needs to be rivetted to the wiper frame (not a big problem but you have to remove it from your car)…you could, of course, remove the spindle/arm from the bearing housing and fit it directly into the old brg housing but you wouldn't get the benefit of the new bearing surfaces……

I suggest you make contact with VW to check availabilty (AND PRICE…which, iirc, was quite expensive ….£15 ish at least) Part Numbers are

172 955 216 for offside spindle assy and 172 955 215 for Nearside (RHD Cars Only)

It may pay to talk otherwise with Crazyquiffe or watch out for the whole assy on evilbay….it may well be cheaper and you will get a spare motor, links and frame that way.

Anyone else watching this posting should remove their wiper arms and the rubber seals and lube the spindle shafts on occassion as they are apt to rust down the bores and seize-up/run very slowly
