Can anyone tell me the colour of my car?

And don't say blue!

In anticipation of some rust work I'll be doing on Sat, can anyone let me know what the colour / code is for the car. I was told that it was 'electric blue' but I cannot find any record of Cabs being produced in that colour. The colour is present throughout the car, so is either the original colour or a full respray.

No colour card inside either door, or under the bonnet. VW delaership couldn't help either, so have hit a bit of a dead end.

Any help would be great

mmm……

try this page http://www.cabby-info.com/paint_colors.htm#BLUES

I reckon the closest match is this Steel Blue Metallic -  LB5T

but its not for a 1987 car…  any chance yours had had a full respray????

cheers

close, but not close enough - thanks for looking though. I hadn't seen that website before.

It could have been resprayed with a non-VW colour, but I've seen cars on this forum the same shade as mine. I did pm somebody about it last week, but after the message was sent it disappeared from my outbox & sent messages folder, so I don't know if they received it or not! Can't remember who it was now or what thread I saw the car in.

If I can't get hold of the right colour, then I'd probably prefer to leave the area as it is - a bit rusty. Having an area a different colour to the rest of the car would annoy me every time I looked at it!

Can anyone else help?

The paint code for mine is on the crossmember between the rear struts in the boot.

I take it you have already looked at the paint code in the boot? My cabs paint code is on the reinforcing bar that runs between the two rear suspension turrets, my cabs black and I think the code is B2. Its annoying as I've fitted a disk changer over the sticker!

Thanks guys - wasn't actually aware that the boot sticker contained this info - It seems then that my colour code is LD5V - Aero Blue which is this colour

or this one

Neither of those look like my colour! Might just have to go to Halfords and see if there's anything that comes close to the colour I've got. Not ideal, but considering the car's 22 years old, I suppose we should expect these things!

Thanks again guys!

Ok - just updating this thread for prosterity. Finally found a match for the colour: LP5U - Bright Blue Metallic

Apparently it is a Mk2 Golf colour (hangs head in shame)

Halfords couldn't recognise the code but my local VW garage could get some in a rattle can only - got some on the car the other day and looks alright, although obviously a little bit brighter than the rest of the car.

Hope this helps someone…

Yep - the colour matched mycar pretty well - a little bit brighter than the original paint, but I suppose that was to be expected.

According to this website, no - http://www.cabby-info.com/paint_years.htm#1984

Having a good look at your pics from your build thread, I'd say that your car may be slightly darker than mine, although when searching for my colour, I would have happily settle on getting a paint the colour of yuoor car as they seem so similar - how you getting on with it?
