Cabriolet carpet loose

Hi - the carpet has come away from the door pillar and I can't find a way of attaching it back successfully. I tried strips of velcro but when I got out of the car, the pressure of my feet on the carpet pulled the whole thing off. Any bright ideas anyone?

A common problem, the carpet is bonded at the edges with a fabric sleeve, part of which wraps around the body seem and is held in place by the door aperture trim.
These rot away over time.
Another issue is that if the top leaks and the water gets in it leaves the carpet smelly and the underlay holds the water, so some people remove the underlay, this leaves the carpet un supported, so when you stand on it it pulls away.
Make sure the top is okay and lift the carpets out and replace the underlay.
If you know someone with a binding machine or industrial machine you could sew on some new fabric.
Or you could use carpet glue to hold it in place.

Id go for a bit of new underlay just to raise the carpet a tad then the original fixings will work. Not the rubber bubble stuff but some solid cloth like underlay.

Thank you both for those helpful practical suggestions - I'll report back.

I had the same problem so I cut two long length 2inch wide strips from an old pair of jeans then sewn them to the edges  of the carpet.  The jeans aren't seen after the rubber and sill cover are in place.

I think this can be a problem on all cabbies…

Mine is gone on the drivers side (passenger side is  perfect) I have used some impact adhesive/glue and two black head set screws to secure in position. Looks ok!

Cheers Hugh.
