Cabrio roof cable where from.....

I would also like to know this for my 92 Clipper.

The roof is in good condition, only 5 years old, but the cable is visible down the side above the petrol cap, and looking rusty.

It doesn't look like it can be tightened anymore, so I'm sure the previous owner has tightened it as much as possible.

Also, how easy is it to replace?

Ta.

got mine from BAS guys

Chorttle the "roof guru" should be along soon to advise some other possible sources :-)

You can get them from VW i think but they are VERY expensive, i have no problems with the new one i fitted to my old clipper from BAS

Its not too bad fitting it but a warning…when tightening the cable tension make sure you hold the cable whilst doing the nut up if you dont it will twist and snap the cable..
There is not a lot of room where you tighten it inside the car but take you time and you will be ok..
You should have a look at the guide on here first though if I were you.
Give it a go youll be alright…promise..

they are trickier to fit whem you havnt got "ventillation holes" also known as rips where mine did when i removed it lol

its a little tircky to get into bolt where you release each side but not too bad, i did one a few weeks ago with arf333 on his cabby to release the tension cable before it went to respray, we found it easier with the roof half up or down if you know what i mean. you should then be able to pull one end put and pull it all the way out from inside roof tabs itself. Getting new one in should be too tricky its just getting the ends back into where you put the nut back on

cup of tea and patience and you should be fine :-)

There is more than likely a guide on here

Thanks guys. I will be giving this a go sooner rather than later.

I've read the guide by Ross on replacing the whole roof, but it loses me on the cable bit so if there's another guide on just replacing the cable that would be great.

Looking now …

(Also the roof above the doors is perfect on one side, but set an inch too high on the other.  It's not letting in any water though, so one job at a time eh? )

Perhaps one of the side cables has snapped? Mine were hanging out on my old roof!

Just remember that it's not always a snapped side tensioning cable the actual roof material can shrink and pull the cable up in an arc shape, the springs on the rear frame arm sections will allow for some movement.
