Cabby boot lid trim, anyone taken it off?

Hi guys

Just wondering if anyone had taken the boot lid trim off their clipper/cabby and kept it off?

If so how did they mount the number plate and does anyone have any pics!?

Cheers

JD

I've done it. You have to weld some holes up after removal.

I put the number plate on with double sided tape.

IIRC the plate should cover the holes, if not get a plate holder it will stick out slightly below. this is what you'll see when trim is removed:

see link below to my old clipper

i took mine off as liked the look, i didnt weld the holes up at the top (by the number plate lights) as would need one hell of a wind direction to blow water up in there etc

i just mounted my plate with double sided tape

keep all your clips and stuff though as you maybe tempted to put it back on further down the line :-)

ah yeah forgot about the upper holes, id just put some tape over them on the inside that should stop any water that tries to get in

Well, I'm probably going to do this because

a) I like the look, slimpler, cooler and more of the car colour on show

b) I managed to put a big crack in my boot trim when removing it!

I'm trying to avoid welding at all costs. Could I out a bit of filler in the holes and smooth it out? Or maybe I should get one of those carbon fibre repair kits?

the bottom 2 holes should be covered by the plate, if not like i say buy yourself some german plate holders they'll cover em
