Bonnet Catch Broken

My bonnet catch has died, can someone tell me why it wont click shut from this picture?
The cable is ok, when pulling the handle in the car it moves the end piece alright.
There was a broken rusty spring sat on the ledge beneath it which i guess could be the culprit? So if a new spring is all thats needed, where does it go? could someone maybe draw it on the pic for me!!?

Yep.. I'd say the spring is the problem, not sure where it goes though to be honest… was just thinking you might be better off getting a new locking latch from somewhere like GSF etc… probably only a few quid!

I'll see if I can get a picture of mine on my lunch break (and I only just fitted it to the front panel on sunday! )if no one has a picture!

Well, mission acomplished. Thanks to Phill's pic i knew which way round the spring went, so i oiled the mechanism up and took out the vw badge so i could fit a new spring that i made from a larger spring. Worked fine first time !!
thanks again for the help Phill.
