Bonnet - Cab and Tintop - Same?

Hi, Just replaced front panel on tin-top mk1 after it had been in a small accident, the thing is I had to replace wings and bonnet aswell. I sourced a bonnet from a cab, I'm presuming they are the same width/size?

But be great if someone could just confirm it, as I seem to have a gap at either side of the bonnet wider than I wanted! And nothing to compare it too.

Cheers, Chris.

Thanks for the confirmation Chudd, was sure they are same - clutching at straws really! Both wings are genuine used VW as far as I know. Had them sent by courier, all I can think is they have been flattened out of shape (in transit). As its even well out up near the front screen, which is odd.

Back to the drawing board. strip it back again, retry, if all else fails - get some brand new VW ones, anyone know a link of where to get some decent ones?

Small crash could have bent one or other of the chassis legs enough to make things not fit?
Other than that the wings may have got a bit bent being removed, especially if they're stuck on with 10 tons of that sticky panel putty stuff. The flange on the wing up near the bulkhead may need tapping in with a hammer. This is the one most likely to be bent by someone levering the wing off.

Happiness ain't at the end of the road.

Cheers Dubzi, yeah I think the flange may need tapping in by the sounds of it, both chassis legs are spot on, straight and no creases at all.

But as it stands the wings are flush to the door, (even with this gap I have at either side). I've not looked yet; but presume the doors can be adjusted?  :dontknow:

Cheers Chris

mk1 tintop bonnets will fit cabbies and vica versa, but the water jet is in a different place....
