bike rack on my cabriolet?
I'm thinking of taking my bike to France in april. The car will be full of people, so I think a bike rack would be the only answer. Is this a daft idea? Can the boot lid take the strain? I would appreciate your views/experience!
Thanks
Ian

The main reason being that for the straps to hold it on, the bike carrier would be very low on the car and also the straps would have to be be very short, therefore pulling more 'outwards' on the boot lid as oppose to 'downwards' if it was fitted on a normal hatchbak or saloon car. This would almost definitely damage your boot lid. I think a tow bar mounted carrier would be your best option.
If you really want to try a strap on one, go down to your local Halfords, if they're doing their jobs properly they will be more than happy to advise and try a carrier on the car for you so you can see what it's like.
Hope this helps
Mike.
