Belly Pan...is there such a thing???
Hi Everybody!!
I've recently spend ALOT of money completely detailing my engine bay, which now looks fantastic. However i have one major problem, this is all the dirt splashing up from the road into the bay, thus dirtiring all my hard work. So i was wondering if anyone knew of a company that produces a belly pan to give some protection??

Given this one some thought myself. I am not aware of anyone producing engine underguards anymore though VW Motorsport made them for rally use many years ago. I have an underguard suitable for rally/off road use and could use the dimensions to make up something a bit lighter. The main problem is mounting it without detracting from a "show" presentation, even temporarily. Up to now I have deceided against, only using the car in the dry and keeping it clean. I have found this not too bad, but if you use the car daily it may be worth making up something out of aluminium and mounting it to the front panel and chassis. It will need a fair bend to clear the sump. If you want to knock something up I can make some dimensions as a starting point.

Hi Dubboy
I thought that may be the case……time to get the tin snips and bender out!!! If you could supply me with some dims it would really help as i envisaged getting the basic size to be the hardest part.

Regarding keeping the engine bay clean (rather than protecting the sump), do any newish VAG cars of a similar size to a Golf Mk1 ('96-on Polo?) have plastic engine undertrays? - It might be possible to adapt one to fit on a Mk1…
On the other hand, my Audi 80 ('91-'96 model) has a really big one, so it might be a good starting point as there's plenty to "trim to fit"
