Attaching door drop glass to winder channel securely

How is this done? I am building up a new drivers door, and have installed new scraper seals. This means that the window is quite tight to roll up especially when it gets near the top.

So I am finding that when I come to wind the window back down, the metal channel/rubber seal is just pulled clean off the glass and the window stays where it is. I have tried using vice clamps to squeeze the channel tightly on to the glass but it hasn't worked   :(

Anyone got any advice?

Thanks.

try a bit of silicone spray lube in all the channels. it might be the front guide is bent out of shape though, this happens if someone has been pushing the glass outwards to try and get the outer scraper seals to do their job!

Take the glass out of the channel, and separate the rubber from it too

Squeeze the channel together using pliers etc, but so you can just about get the glass and rubber in

Soak the channel in car wash shampoo (not corrosive, unlike washing up liquid)

Get a tub of hot water and put the rubber in it, to make it pliable

Fit it all together

Rinse the excess shampoo off with cold water

Thanks for the tips. The rubber is in pretty good nick not hard at all. I have got it working by using a bigger g clamp and clamping it on a lot tighter.

It's holding enough that the window will go up and down, although the glass can still move about a little in the channel. I don't want to squeeze the clamp down anymore in case i crack the glass… Whether or not it will hold when it gets really cold and the window wants to freeze in place is another thing… maybe cleaning it up and lubricating the guides as described above will be the answer.

cheers

it'll probably start to ease up on its own after a while, shame you fitted it in the winter really as being sat outside for a few weeks in the baking heat probably would have bedded em in pretty fast

Check that the runners are secure and also these is slight adjustment to the angle the window sits on the bolts that hold the bracket to the winder mechanism
