Anyone ever dismantled a hood frame?? Quick question.

Evening all.

Has anyone ever dismantled their cabby hood frame? Basically one of the outer bars on mine; the one that runs along the top of the offside rear window is bent. I have another frame but rather than swap the whole frame/lining/hood it would be easier if I could just swap this one bar.

The bars appear to be held together by what looks like large black rivits at the pivot points. Does anyone know if I can remove these fittings, swap this one peice of frame and then put it all back together?

Many Thanks,

Craig.

I will have a look at ETKA when I get home from memory the front section and the rivets were available seperately. Not sure what tools you would need to disssaseble and rebuild as these were made in the factory.
Can you not straighten it out?

Thanks for the reply Chortle. I did look on etka but it was difficult to see if you take it apart.

The piece of frame is question is an H-section with a seal sitting in the guide above an below. The steel is about 2mm thick. I have no idea how someone has managed to even kink it in the first place so there's no chance of bending it back.

I've lived with like that for 5 years since I got the car but I'm gonna sell it this summer and ideally would like it sorted for the new owner.

Hmmm! I reckon by the time you stripped it drilled it out and if you have the equipment to straighten or re rivet, it would be quicker to recover the other frame no more than a day really if the stuffs been fitted before.

Just need a tin of high temp contact adhesive, electric staple gun. If your not far from Derby pop round and I can give you a hand. Just don't take the rear window glass and seal out the other frame, easier to unbolt and re bolt back in etc.

Thanks for the advice chortle. I'm up in Durham im afraid.

If I take the roof off i'll end up fitting a black headling and new window frame and the cost will sprial. I'll probably just leave it. Like i said its not a big issue and has never bothered me in my ownership. Its just me being a fanny and wanting everything perfect before I advertise the car for sale.
